What drives our composers? This is the topic of conversation this evening for three of them: guest curator Mathilde Wantenaar and the two current composers-in-residence of Festival Dag in de Branding, Guzmán Calzada Llorente and Myrto Nizami. The programme includes a taste of what Guzmán and Myrto are working on during their journey at the festival.
This introduction is followed by the concert of the Residentie Orchestra in the main hall of Amare, with the world premiere of Mathilde’s Concerto for accordion and orchestra.
Guzmán will conclude his two-year residency in June with a major work for Ensemble Modelo62 and Heliosphere, in which he juxtaposes contemporary instruments with instruments from the Baroque period. Tonight we get a first impression of this intriguing concept. Myrto is just starting her journey and introduces herself to the audience: what are her plans? Mathilde discusses the choices she has to make, both as a composer and as a guest curator of this festival edition.
