Wilma Pistorius new composer-in-residence at Festival Dag in de Branding
Wilma Pistorius has been selected as composer-in-residence for 2025–2027. Wilma is a cellist and composer, and during her residency at Dag in de Branding she will be creating new music.
The board was impressed by her clear learning goals for the coming two years, in which she wants to focus on interdisciplinary work in the creation of a music theatre piece for singers, actors, dancers, and musicians.
About Wilma Pistorius
Wilma’s musical journey began at the age of three, when she saw a cellist playing in the street in Bath. From the age of four, music became an essential part of her identity, a personal form of expression.
After graduating from the Conservatory, she began searching for her own voice. Her music is serious, but with a wink: a means of communication, beauty, and subtle challenge for both musicians and listeners. Her experience as a woman is interwoven with her artistic work. As a passionate feminist, she enjoys giving her works a positive message of emancipation and equality.
As a cellist with a passion for contemporary music, she looks for ways to make it accessible, through stories, improvisation, and performances in unique locations such as forests or boats. For her, music is a playful, magical way to connect: with the world, with others, and with herself.
Wilma at Festival Dag in de Branding
Over the next two years, Wilma will work with various coaches as composer-in-residence at Festival Dag in de Branding, collaborate with professional ensembles in The Hague, and present her work during upcoming festival editions.
