“Minimal meets ecstatic math‑rock in an epic modern‑day classic.”

Michael Gordon’s Trance is one of the most influential works of the past decades. In 2026, the piece celebrates its 30th anniversary — a milestone that neatly coincides with the 70th birthday of its composer, Michael Gordon, in the same year.

Ensemble Klang seized these anniversaries as an opportunity to bring this iconic work to Dutch stages in an international collaboration with United Instruments of Lucilin from Luxembourg.

They pair Gordon’s Trance with new works by Calliope Tsoupaki and David Fennessy, written for the same powerful instrumentation: 23 amplified musicians on keyboards, trumpets, trombones, guitars, pan flutes and saxophones. An ensemble of enormous impact, rooted in the Netherlands and The Hague, and in Louis Andriessen’s Hoketus.

This performance of Trance promises to be a truly exceptional experience for the audience.
