Two is better than one! During this double bill, you’ll experience two distinct works by different makers.
Spaceship ensemble
The concert by the Spaceship ensemble centers around the theme “Robotics + Music,” featuring two compositions that combine newly built instruments and sound sculptures with a rich musical palette. In The Legendairy Mecha-Cow by Julian Maple-Oliveira, humorous and critical fictional machines replace traditional dairy production, using unique instruments like the “automated Moo-box” and “cowbell keyboard.” Mari Mako’s piece introduces a kinetic sound sculpture as conductor, designed by the composer herself, where microtonality collides and merges with the Kodály tradition. Both works challenge conventions and playfully explore the dynamic interplay between humans and technology.
Huba de Graaff, Componist danst uit eigen werk
In her solo performance CDUEW (Componist danst uit eigen werk), composer Huba de Graaff offers a musical tribute to sound carriers from the pre-digital era. Using equipment such as a Revox tape recorder, Alpha Syntauri, cassette deck, and a primitive sequencer, she dances through a maze of cables and vintage devices. Much like John Cage in Water Walk, she revives forgotten sonic experiments, where nostalgia, technology, and performance converge in a poetic homage to bygone audio media.
