Walls are physical boundaries, and in today’s world their presence is felt stronger than ever before: we are even seeing imaginary walls being drawn up. Walls are everywhere in our daily lives, from the check-in turnstiles in public transport to the more figurative firewalls on our computers. At the same time, cameras are everywhere, breaching the walls protecting our privacy.
In his new composition W.A.L.L. composer/guitarist Aart Strootman responds to these developments. A consort of guitars and a colossal marimba together draw up unheard-of and impenetrable microtonal walls of sound.
