Music for Wilderness Lake (Part 1)
Ensemble Koninklijk Conservatorium
Music for Wilderness Lake is a remarkable work by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer, written for twelve trombonists positioned spatially in the open air. The natural environment is an essential part of the performance: the sounds blend with the surrounding ambient sounds, creating a unique listening experience that is constantly changing.
With this composition, Schafer explores the relationship between music, space and nature. The trombones seem to enter into dialogue with one another from different directions, creating an impressive soundscape. Music for Wilderness Lake is considered one of Schafer’s most iconic works and reflects his strong interest in acoustic ecology and the experience of listening in the open air. In the morning, you will hear the first part; in the evening – at the end of the festival – you will hear the final part.
