Orkest De Ereprijs has a reputation to uphold as the leading new music ensemble in the east of the Netherlands. For Festival Dag in de Branding, the Gelderlanders gladly cross over to the west, bringing with them no less than two saxophones – the favourite instrument of composer and guest curator Jan-Peter de Graaff, which runs like a thread through this edition’s programme.
For several years now, in the series ‘Aardlek: urgent matters’, Orkest De Ereprijs has been creating a laboratory in which new music and the most pressing questions of our time connect. Fascinating encounters take place during their Sunday afternoon concerts in museums in Apeldoorn and Arnhem: in an informal setting, guests from different disciplines (from science and philosophy to literature and design) share their ideas with the audience, while composers engage in a musical dialogue with them. New music of high relevance! Guest curator De Graaff selected six beautiful and recent pieces from the Ereprijs repertoire for Festival Dag in de Branding.
The programme features six composers, each with their own signature. Three of them featured in previous editions of Festival Dag in de Branding: Vanessa Lann, Pete Harden and Seung-Won Oh. The music of Wilbert Bulsink, Jesse Broekman and Thanakarn Schofield is brand new to the festival.
