In Petra Strahovnik’s view our daily lives are a constant stream of ‘mental rapes’ by the media, advertising, politics and the myriad types of manipulation in the world today. Pleasure, pain or happiness – society will tell us what to think and feel when we hear these words.

In her new composition for piano and electronics, written especially for Saskia Lankhoorn, Petra Strahovnik aims to create a safe haven, far from this world of imposed experiences: ‘Tune in and listen. Experience new soundscapes, new ideas, and new neural connections. Feel what it’s like to see the world from a new and different perspective.’
The new composition by Petra Strahovnik was co-commissioned by the Gaudeamus Foundation and the Johan Wagenaar Foundation/Festival Dag in de Branding.
