The sounds flew from the grand pianos when Saskia Lankhoorn and Vicky Chow played together for the first time. And soon after, X88 was born. In Outer Limits, they explore the extremes of sound and theatricality. It promises to be a concert full of contrasts with music by four composers. The piece by American sound artist Tristan Perich was written from his background as an electronics wizard. The Swiss Nik Bärtsch, who combines improvisation with zen, created a piece with contagiously woven rhythms and layered minimal funk. Vanessa Lann wrote a piece for the duo which explores extremes both of the players and their instruments. Klang guitarist Pete Harden, like Lann a leading figure in the Dutch music scene, was inspired by a tropical butterfly, this resulted in a piece that consists only of instructions. He spins a web in which the duo can move and then decide for themselves how to perform it.
